It has been one of the most glorious journeys for young India from attaining independence on 15th August 1947 to being 70 years old on 15th August 2017. The roller coaster ride that the country went through is a testament to its confidence, commitment and willingness to develop at a higher pace than statistics would have adjudged the country would have. Being the biggest democracy in the world, the country had to endure some tough times to reach the position it has attained today.
During the first 45 years after independence, Indian economy had to face a lot of stiff regimes and decisions which made the country experience some major fluctuations in its economy. Back during the Indira Gandhi regime in 1977, the economy reached an all time wretched condition when it utterly stagnated dead as no reforms or decisions were taken to help it out. Once post the 1980s the country found its feet and started racing up through the track passing everyone into becoming one of the most stable economies out there now. Taking into consideration the defence of the country, we just flew past nations who still gasp for a proper footing in the 'military game'.
The introduction of indigenous missile programs like Brahmos, Agni, Prithvi etc has been a major up-step for the country. Focusing on indigenous production of everything, India is also a pioneer in rocket and nuclear science with a visionary like APJ Abdul Kalam laying the groundwork for it. Our space expeditions to the Moon which was carried out by Chandrayaan and Mars which was carried out by Mangalyaan were two of the cheapest ever space missions in the history of space science. Rich history, geographical and cultural diversity attracts a large number of international tourists in India. GDP of tourism sector has increased by 229% in the years 1990-2011.
Tourism generated USD 121 billion revenue, 39.3 million jobs in the last few years. And the count has been increasing ever since. In the field of education, India has developed quite profoundly from nothing. The literacy rate in India was recorded as 74% in 2011 census. India is now ranked at number 3 after China and U.S.A in the field of higher education. The literacy rate of women was never over 30% until 2001 where it hit 50% and still climbing adding to our pride. These being just the tip of the iceberg of the 70 years of unmitigated rise and development the country has witnessed it's fair to say this young democracy is nowhere done with development in any of the sectors. Stronger and getting even bolder year after year.
